The School
Initially all the children that were in the sponsorship scheme were at the school that John and Alice built in Rukungiri called Modern Primary school.
As time went by and these children finished their primary education some have gone to secondary school and some
have joined the Vocational Centre that John and Alice also run. A very few have been
able to go on to university if they have done really well in their secondary school exams.
There are about 750 children in Modern Primary School and about half of these are orphans or very needy children. There are 2 nursery classes and 7 primary classes. Most classes have between 40 and 70 children. So far our charity is sponsoring about 170 children and we have helped to provide water harvesting tanks, dormitories, mattresses, mosquito nets and a tipper lorry to transport firewood, food and building materials.
The directors and teachers of the school
are rightly proud of the good academic results that the school has achieved. Sponsorship money helps to pay the teachers salary which means that the teachers feel secure and are committed to the school and the children. Some of the teachers live at the school to look after those children who board there during term time. A few children stay
all year round.
